Why bother voting?
If you consider how extremely unlikely anything you ever vote on will come down to a single vote, well... it doesn’t take much sense to figure out that your sole vote is inconsequential and effectively meaningless. A single vote might make you feel good or deliver some other benefit to the voter, but it is almost certainly not important to the election outcome. Whether or not you vote has essentially zero effect on whether everybody else votes, so your vote remains just one vote.
I’ll also say that I personally *have* voted in the vast majority of elections over the years, despite the obvious pointlessness of the endeavor. I used to justify the effort with various rationales, but I’ve grown less interested recently with convincing myself that the act of voting matters for the individual.
I think I’ll just spend a little extra time drinking whiskey today to celebrate the jettisoning of another waste of time from my to-do list.
